Through the laying on of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, Bishop W. Shawn McKnight ordains Father Christopher Hoffmann a priest of the Jefferson City diocese, and ordains Rev. Mr. Gregory Clever, a seminarian, a transitional deacon, on June 1, 2024, in the Cathedral of St. Joseph. A large congregation of people from throughout the diocese and some from far away filled the Cathedral nearly to capacity. The Ordination Rite is filled with ancient prayers and rituals dating back to Biblical times. In his homily, Bishop McKnight instructed both men to have always as their aim the salvation of souls and the active engagement of the laity in the life and mission of the Church. “May your leadership and service prepare the People of God in our local Church ‘to be like servants who await their master’s return ... when he comes and knocks,’” the bishop said, referring to Jesus’s Parable of the Vigilant and Faithful Servants.
